Queen

British rock band Queen formed in 1971 with the core members Freddie Mercury, Brian May, John Deacon and Roger Taylor. The style of the band’s material embodied the essence of the glam rock genre that was dominant in the 1970s, although they did branch out into other styles such as electronic and funk. With Mercury's flamboyant stage presence, the bands distinctive stage performances, heavy guitar riffs, outlandish costumes and the use of intricate vocal harmonies the group soon became well known. This enabled their music to stand apart from other work of the time and led to them becoming one of the biggest stadium rock bands of all time. It is estimated that the band have sold over 300 million albums worldwide. Their 1985 Live Aid performance is often regarded as one of rocks greatest performances. Mercury died in 1991 and although the band continued during the 1990's with May and Taylor (with vocals from Paul Rogers) have since disbanded. Some of their best known hits inclucde "We Will Rock You", "Don't Stop Me Now", "I Want To Break Free" and "Bohemian Rhapsody".
